Cooking with children is so much fun, although it takes patience and preparation. When I cook with Addison, I get all the ingredients ready to put together. Then she can microwave the butter or roll out the cookies and pour ingredients in bowls. If we start from scratch, my hair is standing straight up on end by the time the food gets done .
Somehow the thought of letting a five year old chop almonds just tears my nerves up. So get the hard stuff done and let the fun begin.
Here is a delicious no bake cookie recipe. My granddaughter had a blast making these. They are very easy for little hands. She kept eating the ingredients – I was afraid there wouldn’t be much left.
Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies
No Baking – One Bowl
Ingredients
1 container (16 oz) dark chocolate frosting
1 stick butter, softened
2-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (I buy these already crushed)
1/2 teasp. almond extract
1 cup finely chopped almonds
48 chocolate Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped
Cream butter and chocolate frosting in large bowl until well blended. Mix in all ingredients. (except Kisses.) Shape mixture into 1 inch balls (about 48). Using your thumb, make an indentation in the center of each ball. Put a Kiss in each indentation. Refrigate for about 30 minutes.
